Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
Tamko paver-compatible driveway repair and replacement in Fort Lauderdale runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed for a full paver driveway, and we keep the most common edge restraints, joint sand, and replacement pavers on hand. If your driveway is sinking, cracking at the edges, or the pavers have started shifting apart, you’re in the right place. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners discover the failure the same way: after a heavy afternoon downpour, water pools where the pavers settled, or a paver chunks out near the street apron where the garbage truck turns.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Tamko, but we work with their paver systems weekly across Fort Lauderdale. What matters most is matching the replacement part to what’s already in the ground, because paver dimensions and locking systems changed across Tamko’s product generations.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s driveway paver lines, including their Heritage and Estate Series, use a tongue-and-groove interlock that’s dimensionally different from standard square-edge pavers. The gotcha: a paver from the 2014 catalog is often 3mm narrower than one from 2021, even if both are labeled the same color. That 3mm shows up as a hairline gap at the field edge, and within two Fort Lauderdale rainy seasons, that gap becomes a paver that rocks under your foot.
Identifying what you have takes three steps. First, pull one full paver from an edge or a damaged section and measure it with a tape, length, width, and thickness. Second, look at the bottom face for a molded date code or mold number. Third, take a photo of the surface texture. Tamko changed their surface finish from a flat sand blast to a subtle wire-cut texture around 2019, and matching the wrong texture is the difference between an invisible repair and one that catches the sun wrong every time you pull in. We match OEM Tamko pavers first, and use quality aftermarket equivalents only when the exact mold is discontinued, which Tamko tells suppliers is more common on colors from the early 2010s.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edge pavers are pulling away from the concrete curb or driveway border. This is almost always a failed plastic edge restraint. Fort Lauderdale’s sandy soil lets water undercut the restraint, and the soil has no clay to hold it. The restraint fails first, then the outside rows loosen.
- Water pools in flat, shallow puddles after light rain. That means the base layer, usually crushed limestone or shell rock, has settled unevenly. Florida’s two-season weather, wet summer and dry winter, makes the ground expand and contract more than most regions.
- A single paver cracks or a corner spalls off near a turned edge. Reinforced concrete has rebar to absorb point loads. A 60mm paver doesn’t. One sharp impact from a jack stand or a dropped trailer hitch is enough.
- Joint sand washes out after every downpour and weeds sprout in the joints. Standard sand in a 3mm joint won’t survive a Fort Lauderdale afternoon storm. Polymeric sand that wasn’t activated properly, or was applied in damp weather, breaks down within a year.
- The whole driveway has a slight wave, a low spot you can spot standing at the street looking toward the garage. That’s base failure from below, often caused by a broken irrigation line or a root from a ficus tree. The pavers didn’t fail; the ground under them did.
Each of these has a fix, but the fix only lasts if it addresses what’s underneath. A cracked paver we can replace in an afternoon. A waving driveway means re-doing the base, and that’s a multi-day excavation.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, plan on $12 to $18 per square foot for paver driveway replacement, with most homes falling between $9,000 and $16,000 depending on size, access, and how much of the old base can be salvaged. A straight paver swap where the base is solid, just failed pavers, runs much lighter, usually $400 to $900 for a few replacement pavers and joint work. A full tear-out with new base runs at the top of that range.
Every quote includes the parts, the base work, haul-away of the old material, and the labor. We give you a written price before any work starts, and it doesn’t change once we open the ground unless we find something structural that no one could see from the surface, and that’s rare on a driveway. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no cost to you. Isaac Pruett, our owner, is on job sites across Fort Lauderdale weekly, and he checks paver driveways personally.

You can check two things safely without touching the pavers: look at the edges to see if the plastic restraint is visible or buried, and take photos of any cracking or pooling after rain. That helps us give you a straight answer before we even schedule a visit. Replacing a single paver without damaging the locking tabs on the neighbors is trickier than it looks, and pulling the edge restraint without proper compaction means you redo it next year.
Paver work is low-voltage, but it’s not low-skill. The weight alone, a standard Tamko paver is about 6 pounds, times several hundred, means you’re moving literal tons by hand. Our crews do it right, with the right base compaction and the right joint sand for South Florida weather. Call (754) 354-3720 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you what you found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost, before we touch a thing.
FAQs

A properly installed Tamko paver driveway lasts 20 to 30 years, even with Fort Lauderdale’s rain cycles, as long as the base was built right and the joint sand is maintained every five to eight years. The pavers themselves rarely fail; the base and edge restraints go first.
No repair is worth doing on a cracked paver; the crack line stays visible and the two halves will separate again under load. Replacing the single paver, which runs $30 to $60 in material plus the visit, is the only fix that looks right. Call (754) 354-3720 and we’ll match the color and texture.
A typical Fort Lauderdale paver driveway replacement takes three to five working days from tear-out to final compaction, assuming the base doesn’t need more than standard repair. Weather can stretch that; we don’t install pavers over a soaked base, because the compaction will fail within two years.
We stock the most common Tamko replacement pavers, edge restraints, and joint sand in Fort Lauderdale, and we order specific colors or older molds directly from suppliers when a match isn’t on the truck. You never have to source the parts; that’s our job.
