Barrette Roofing: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you have Barrette roofing products on your Fort Lauderdale home and something’s failing, we stock the replacement components, match them to your exact series, and install them the same visit. Most Barrette part replacements run $400 to $1,800 installed, depending on what’s failed and how many sections need work. You’ll know it’s time to call when shingles start cupping at the edges, clips pop loose after a storm, or you spot daylight through a seam in the attic.

Call (754) 354-3720

We’re Mason Remodeling Co Fort Lauderdale, an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Barrette. That matters because we’ll tell you straight whether an OEM part is worth the wait or a quality aftermarket equivalent will outlast it in South Florida humidity.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Barrette makes a specific line of roofing products, mainly ridge caps, vented ridge systems, and polymer shake and shingle profiles. The compatibility gotcha most homeowners run into: Barrette ridge caps are sized for either standard 3-tab asphalt shingles or their own dimensional shake profiles, and the two are not interchangeable. If your original roof used standard 3-tab shingles, you need the Barrette cap made for that profile, not the one sized for their thicker polymer shake. Measure the exposed width of one of your existing caps before you call. If it’s roughly 10 inches, it’s a standard-profile cap. If it’s closer to 12, it’s the polymer profile.

Look for the stamped dimple or molded channel on the underside of the cap. That’s Barrette’s vent channel and it’s the fastest way to confirm you’ve got a genuine Barrette product rather than a generic cap from the original build. For most Fort Lauderdale homes we’re replacing caps in batches of 6 to 12 pieces at a time, not one at a time. When one cap cracks from UV exposure, the ones next to it are usually weeks behind.

Signs Your Barrette Roofing Is Failing

  • Cupped or curled cap edges. Years of direct Florida sun breaks down the polymer binding agent, and the cap curls upward at each end. This lets water run under the cap instead of over it, and the first place you’ll notice is a water stain on the ceiling near a ridge line.
  • Loose or missing clips. Barrette’s vented caps rely on a plastic clip-and-channel system. After a few hurricane-season cycles, those clips get brittle and snap. If you find a small piece of beige or grey plastic in your gutter after a storm, that’s a cap clip. The cap was lifted by wind and water has already been getting in.
  • Polymer shake pieces sliding out of alignment. On Barrette shake profiles, fasteners work loose in the heat-cold cycle that Fort Lauderdale attics go through every summer. You’ll see a shake that’s shifted a half-inch to the side, exposing the nailing strip underneath.
  • Daylight through the ridge vent in the attic. If you’re walking the attic on a bright day and see light coming through a gap where the cap should seat, the cap has separated from the vent channel. This is the one to act on first. It’s not just heat loss; it’s a direct entry point for driving rain.
  • Granule-like debris in the gutter beneath a ridge. Barrette polymer caps shed a fine grit as they age. A consistent line of grit in one section of gutter, while the rest of the roof looks fine, tells you exactly which caps are nearing the end.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

In Fort Lauderdale, the installed price for Barrette roof component replacement runs between $400 and $1,800. A simple job, say replacing 6 to 8 ridge caps with no chase leaks, lands closer to the $400 to $700 range. Larger jobs with multiple ridge lines, or a full replacement of polymer shake where every third piece is being reused, run toward the higher end of that range.

We deliver a written price before any work starts. That price includes removal of the failed pieces, inspection of the underlayment and vent channel, installation of the new Barrette or equivalent component, and disposal of all old material. The number we give you is the number you pay. If we open up a ridge line and find rot in the decking beneath, we tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost, before we touch the decking.

DIY or Call Us?

If you’re comfortable on a ladder and you’re just doing a visual check, go ahead and count the failed pieces, look for loose clips, and take photos. That’s useful and safe. What we don’t recommend is pulling a Barrette cap off to “see what’s underneath.” Those caps are under tension once the nails are set, and yanking one loose without proper support will crack the piece you were hoping to save, and can send a shard of polymer edge-first toward your face.

Roof work above a single-story Fort Lauderdale home is still a fall risk. We carry the right tie-off gear, we know exactly which cap profile fits your shingle type, and we’re already stocked for most Barrette replacements. If it’s beyond a visual check, call (754) 354-3720 and let us put eyes on it.
