Ameristar Roofing: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ameristar-compatible roofing parts across Fort Lauderdale, with typical installed replacement costs running $400 – $1,800 depending on what failed and how much surface area is involved. Most Ameristar roof repairs take one visit, and we carry the common failure points on our trucks. Homeowners usually discover the problem the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a hard South Florida downpour, granules collecting in the gutters, or a shingle that peeled off during hurricane season and left bare underlayment exposed.

Ameristar is a value-priced asphalt shingle line we see regularly on mid-2000s homes east of I-95 and throughout subdivisions in Davie, Plantation, and western Fort Lauderdale. The shingles hold up reasonably well for their price point, but the Florida sun and salt air age them faster than the warranty paperwork suggests. We’ll match what you have, tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether you’re chasing a roof that’s near its end, and put the number in writing before we touch anything.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar is not a single shingle line. It was sold through building supply houses as a contractor-grade architectural shingle, and the product family includes a handful of sub-lines that look identical on a roof but have different granule blends and backing materials. The three we encounter most in Broward County are the Ameristar Classic, the Ameristar Premium, and the Ameristar WeatherGuard. All are three-tab or basic architectural profiles in standard 12″ x 36″ strip dimensions, which means a competent roofer can match them even if the exact sub-line is discontinued.

The gotcha we see on site: the packaging label is long gone by the time a repair is needed, and the shingle color on the south-facing slope has faded differently than the north slope. We identify the line by the self-seal strip pattern and the granule texture, not just by color. If we can’t confirm the exact Ameristar model, we use a quality architectural equivalent with a matching profile and run a color test against a cleaned section before we commit. OEM Ameristar stock has largely dried up in South Florida supply houses, so aftermarket equivalents are often the only choice, and some of them exceed the original spec. We’ll tell you which is which and why, not just what fits the budget.

One more Ameristar-specific note: the WeatherGuard line used a modified asphalt formula that handles Fort Lauderdale’s afternoon thunderstorms better than the Classic, but it also had a run of production years where the adhesive strip degraded early. If your roof is from roughly 2008 to 2012 and you’re seeing shingles lift along the windward edge, that’s the failure pattern we check first.

Signs Your Ameristar Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutters or at downspout bases. Asphalt shingles shed granules as they age, and South Florida’s UV load accelerates it. If you can see the fiberglass mat through the granule layer, the shingle is past saving and full replacement of that section is the fix.
  • Lifting or curling shingle edges along the windward slope. The self-seal strips on Ameristar shingles can fail before the shingle itself does. Once the wind gets under them, they tear. A lifted shingle today is a missing shingle after the next tropical system.
  • A water stain on the ceiling that appears after heavy rain but not light rain. That pattern usually means a small breach in the underlayment that only leaks when enough water stands on the roof deck. By the time the stain is visible, water has been traveling for a while.
  • Missing shingles after a storm, with bare underlayment showing. Fort Lauderdale gets real wind. If the underlayment is the original 15-lb felt and it’s been exposed more than a day or two, it’s already breaking down, and the repair scope just grew.
  • Soft spots when you walk the roof or visible sagging along the eaves. This is structural, not cosmetic. Ameristar shingles on a deck that’s been wet for months means the deck sheathing itself may need replacement, and that’s a different conversation than swapping a few shingles.

If you’re seeing any of these, the sooner we look, the smaller the repair. Water in a Fort Lauderdale attic doesn’t dry out on its own between May and October.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

In Fort Lauderdale, a targeted Ameristar roof repair on our schedule runs $400 – $1,800 installed. The low end covers a small bundle of matching shingles, a bundle of ridge cap, some sealant, and an hour or two of labor for a small patch or a handful of lifted tabs re-sealed. The high end covers a larger section replacement, underlayment repair, flashing work around a vent or skylight, and disposal of the old material.

What drives the range is mostly how much deck sheathing and underlayment has to come up. If the leak is small and the deck is sound, it’s a morning job at the lower end. If the deck is soft or the underlayment is the original felt from a 2006 build, we replace what we open. We don’t leave bad substrate under new shingles and call it done; that’s the kind of work that fails again in eighteen months.

Every Ameristar roof repair we do includes a written line-item price before work starts, the labor warranty in writing, and the material warranty passed through from the manufacturer or equivalent supplier. If the repair fails within 365 days of completion, we return and make it right at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. That promise applies to roofing repairs just as it does to our remodeling work.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check your Ameristar roof from the ground with binoculars: look for missing tabs, lifted edges, granule loss, and anything that looks different from the rest of the slope. Cleaning gutters is also reasonable. What I would not do is walk a two-story Fort Lauderdale roof with a heat gun or a bucket of tar and try to re-seal a shingle. Falls from roofs are one of the top injury sources on home projects, and the sun-slicked granules on an Ameristar shingle make for terrible footing.

The other reason DIY roof repair usually costs more than it saves: you need to find the actual entry point of the water, not just the visible damage. Water runs sideways along the deck. The shingle you replace might not be the shingle that leaked. We trace the water path, open only what we need to, and give you a straight answer on what it will cost. Call (754) 354-3720 for a free estimate. We tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost, before we touch a thing.
