Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you’re looking for Therma-Tru driveway and paver work in Fort Lauderdale, the typical installed price lands between $7,000 and $18,000 for a full paver driveway, with smaller paver patio runs starting around $3,500. We stock and install specification-grade pavers that pair correctly with Therma-Tru entry systems, and we can usually have a crew on-site within a few days for an assessment. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a paver settles after a heavy summer rain, a section of the driveway edge starts crumbling into the swale, or the apron in front of the Therma-Tru door no longer drains water away from the threshold.
We tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost, before we touch a thing.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru doesn’t manufacture pavers. But their entry doors are built around specific threshold heights, sill profiles, and door-sweep tolerances, and the hardscape around them has to respect those dimensions. We see this most often with Therma-Tru Classic-Craft, Pulse, and Benchmark door lines where homeowners want a paver landing, walkway, or driveway apron that ties into the entry. The compatibility gotcha: Therma-Tru sills are typically 1 inch to 2 inches tall, which is lower than most contractor-grade paver thresholds. If the finished paver surface sits too high relative to the sill, water pools against the door frame. If it sits too low, the door sweep leaves a gap. We measure from the top of the sill to the rough grade before selecting base depth and paver thickness.
Mason Remodeling Co Fort Lauderdale is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with Therma-Tru. We do stock and install paved surfaces from Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc, and we also handle parts and materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when a project overlaps.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pooling against the threshold after rain. This usually means the paver base has settled and the surface grade now slopes toward the house instead of away. In Fort Lauderdale, where a summer afternoon can drop two inches of rain in an hour, this is the number one failure we correct.
- Paver edges along the driveway apron are sinking or separating. The sandy sub-base under the paver border gets washed out by runoff, and the edge pavers start tilting. Once the edge drops, the rest of the field follows.
- Cracks running parallel to the driveway edge. That’s typically a base-depth problem. Driveway pavers in South Florida need a crushed concrete or limerock base of at least 4 to 6 inches compacted. Contractors who skim on base depth leave you with a surface that shifts with the water table.
- Efflorescence, a white chalky haze that won’t wash off. It’s mineral salts wicking through the paver surface from trapped moisture below. It’s not structural, but it tells you water is moving under the pavers when it shouldn’t be.
- Hollow sound when tapped, or pavers that rock underfoot. The bedding sand beneath has eroded or was never screeded evenly. Individual pavers lose support and start moving.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a full paver driveway replacement in Fort Lauderdale, plan on $7,000 to $18,000 installed. A paver patio or walkway landing near a Therma-Tru entry runs $3,500 to $11,000. If we’re resetting an existing edge course or replacing a section of failed apron, that typically falls into a smaller repair scope starting around $1,200 to $2,500 depending on footage, base condition, and paver availability. What drives the range: total square footage, current base condition whether we can reuse or must remove it, paver style and brand, edge restraint work, and drainage corrections. Every quote includes demolition and haul-off of failed material, base prep and compaction, sand bedding, paver installation, edge restraint, and a written line-item price before work starts. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation for a full year from completion date.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Run a hose along the walkway and watch where water travels. Look for pavers that have dropped more than a quarter inch. Tap a few pavers with a rubber mallet and listen for hollow spots. What we don’t recommend: pulling up pavers and re-setting them yourself around a Therma-Tru threshold. The margin for error on the grade is about an eighth of an inch over four feet. Get it wrong and water runs toward your door instead of away, and now you’ve got a sill leak, trim rot, and a rusting threshold. That’s a bigger bill than the original paver issue ever was.

FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Fort Lauderdale with a 4 to 6 inch compacted base typically lasts 20 to 30 years before needing a reset or spot repair. The pavers themselves rarely fail; it’s the base and bedding system underneath that gives out first, usually due to water movement in our sandy, high-water-table soil. Call (754) 354-3720 if you suspect your base is going.
Yes, if the base is still sound. A failed edge course or a low spot can often be lifted, the base recompacted, fresh bedding sand screeded, and the pavers re-laid. If the base layer has washed out or was never thick enough, patching will fail again within a year or two. We’ll tell you which situation you have before quoting the work.
Most residential paver driveway replacements in Fort Lauderdale take 3 to 5 working days from demolition through final compaction and joint sand. Rain delays are the main variable, especially June through October. We stage materials to keep the job moving between storms.
We keep common sizes and colors from Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc available through our local Fort Lauderdale supply partners, so almost any job can start within about a week of contract signing. Specialty colors or large-format pavers may add a few extra days for delivery.
