CWS Windows & Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS window or door in Fort Lauderdale with a failed part, we stock and install common replacements, and the work typically runs $450 – $2,800 installed depending on the component. Most hardware swaps are done same-day. The way most owners find us: a slider stops sliding smoothly, a lock refuses to catch, a crank spins without moving the sash, or a door starts binding against the frame as humidity shifts. The good news is that CWS uses fairly standard hardware across many of its lines, which means the fix is usually faster than people expect. The less good news: salt air and sun are relentless on coated hardware, so waiting usually makes the repair bigger. Call (754) 354-3720 and we’ll match the part to your unit before quoting anything.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS has made a lot of window and door lines over the years, and the compatibility details matter more than the model name. You’ll find a small silver or white label on the inside edge of the sash or door panel: it carries a serial number, a date code, and often a hardware series letter. That label is worth photographing before you call anyone. The common series we see in Fort Lauderdale homes use roller systems sized by wheel diameter and bracket offset, and they are not interchangeable across every CWS line, even when the wheels look identical at a glance. A wheel off by 2mm will make a 6-foot slider drag like it’s full of sand.
One gotcha in South Florida: the corrosion-resistant hardware CWS used on coastal-rated units is often a different part number than the standard series part, even on the exact same visible model. If you order by look alone, you can end up with zinc-plated hardware that starts rusting in a season. We stock both OEM CWS parts and quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like Truth Hardware and WRS, and we will tell you plainly when OEM is worth the extra money and when the aftermarket part is actually better for our climate. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS, which means we pick the part that will last, not the one with the logo on the box.

Signs Your CWS Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window or door takes real muscle to open or close. Rollers flatten over time, especially under the weight of CWS’s impact-rated glass. You’re feeling metal dragging on track, not normal operation.
- Lock won’t throw or catches halfway. Keepers and strikes shift as the frame settles, and in coastal air the lock’s internal springs corrode first. A lock that only half-throws is not locked.
- Cranking a casement does nothing, or jumps teeth. The operator gear strips when the sash is pushed beyond the stop, or the arm’s rivet sheared. This gets worse with every forced turn.
- Black or white dust falling from the top of the sash. That’s the balancer or shoe disintegrating. The window may still stay up for now, but when the last coil lets go the sash slams down hard.
- Door scrapes the frame only after heavy rain. The slab absorbed moisture and swelled, or the frame shifted. Repeated scraping chews through weatherstripping and then the finish, and once water is getting past the seal, you’re into frame rot territory.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what CWS parts and labor run in Fort Lauderdale right now:
| Part or Repair | Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Sliding door roller replacement (per panel) | $180 – $450 |
| Window roller replacement (per sash) | $150 – $350 |
| Crank operator and hinge set (casement) | $220 – $550 |
| Lock and keeper replacement | $90 – $250 |
| Balancer replacement (per side) | $120 – $300 |
| Full hardware refresh on a single door | $350 – $900 |
| Complete CWS window replacement | $4500 – $15000 |
The range comes down to three things: which CWS series you have, whether OEM or aftermarket makes more sense, and how much track corrosion we have to clean up before new hardware will roll correctly. You get a written line-item price before any work starts, which matches the way Isaac Pruett has run jobs from day one. The hardware itself carries its manufacturer warranty, and our labor is covered under a written guarantee with a free return visit if anything fails within 365 days of completion. No verbal estimates that drift upward after the old part comes out.
DIY or Call Us?
Honest split: cleaning your CWS track and clearing debris from the sill is safe, easy, and fixes maybe a third of the “my door won’t slide” calls we would otherwise charge a service fee for. Use a vacuum, then a damp rag, then a dry one. Don’t grease the track, it collects sand and makes things worse. But springs and balancers are under tension, and a balancer that lets go while you’re working on it can take out a hand or a face. We’ve replaced more than a few windows where the homeowner’s YouTube repair went sideways. For locks, the risk is different: a lock installed 3mm out of position creates a false sense of security. We tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost, before we touch a thing. If it’s a roller, a lock, a crank, or a balancer, call (754) 354-3720 and we’ll quote it over the phone.
FAQs

A CWS frame with impact glass can last 20 – 30 years, but the hardware won’t. Rollers, locks, and balancers in Fort Lauderdale’s salt air typically fail at 8 – 15 years. The frame may be fine long after the moving parts are done. Call (754) 354-3720 and we’ll tell you if the frame is worth saving before we sell you a thing.
Locks sometimes can be: corrosion and grit can be cleaned out and the spring re-tensioned, and we’ll do that if it will hold. Rollers and balancers generally cannot be repaired reliably; the internal components are not made to be rebuilt. We’ll only repair what will stay repaired.
Most single-window hardware swaps take 45 minutes to two hours. A full sliding door roller and lock refresh on a CWS unit is usually two to three hours. We carry the common part numbers on the truck, so most jobs are one visit.
We stock the most common CWS-compatible rollers, locks, and balancers on the truck and keep deeper inventory for frequently seen Fort Lauderdale series at the shop. Specialty parts we order, and that can take 3 – 7 business days. Call (754) 354-3720 with your serial label ready and we’ll tell you immediately if it’s on the truck.
