IKO Windows & Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you have an IKO window or door that’s failed, we stock compatible replacement parts and complete units here in Fort Lauderdale. Typical installed replacement costs run from $450 to $2,800 depending on whether it’s a hardware swap or a full window or door replacement. Most parts calls we get start with a window that won’t lock, a door that drags, or a seal that’s gone cloudy. Your IKO product wasn’t cheap, and a failed part shouldn’t mean replacing something that still has years of life in it.
What we see most in Fort Lauderdale is salt air corrosion on hardware and UV damage to seals and weatherstripping. These are not defects in the IKO product. They are what our climate does to anything exposed to it year-round. The good news is that most of these failures are isolated to a single component, and matching the part correctly gets the window or door working like it did the day it was installed.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO builds several window and door lines, and the parts are not as interchangeable as you’d hope. The most common IKO products we service in Fort Lauderdale are their vinyl single-hung and horizontal slider windows, plus sliding glass doors. Older IKO models used a narrower sash profile, which matters when you’re replacing the balance or the locking hardware. Newer models moved to a wider profile, and the hardware from one does not fit the other.
The quickest way to identify what you have is to look for the IKO label on the inside edge of the sash or the top of the door frame. It’ll show a series name and sometimes a manufacturing date. If the label is gone, take a photo of the corner of the sash, the lock, and the track, and call us. Isaac Pruett has matched enough of these to know the difference at a glance. If you’re the type who wants the exact OEM part, we can order it. But for many older IKO models, the OEM part is discontinued, and a quality aftermarket equivalent is the only option that gets the window working again. We’ll tell you which path you’re on before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your IKO Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window won’t stay up. This is a failed balance system, usually from a worn spring or a broken cord in the side channel. Very common in Fort Lauderdale windows that face west and bake in the afternoon sun. The window still glass and frame are fine – the lifting mechanism gave out.
- The lock won’t catch. On IKO windows, the lock is a two-part system: a keeper on the frame and a latch on the sash. Salt air will wear the latch face until it slips past the keeper instead of grabbing it. This is a $40 to $90 part, not a reason to replace the window.
- The sliding door drags or grinds. Sand gets into the track rollers, and over time the roller bearings seize. You’ll hear it before you see it. The rollers on IKO sliding doors are replaceable, and it’s a far better fix than living with a door that fights you.
- Water or condensation trapped between panes. This is a failed seal on the insulated glass unit. On the coast, we see this on the seaward side of the house first. The fix is a new IGU, not a full window replacement, unless the frame itself is rotted or dented.
- Weatherstripping is flat or peeling. Florida UV light destroys rubber and foam seals faster than any other climate in the country. A window that’s suddenly drafty or whistling in the wind usually just needs new weatherstripping, which costs a fraction of what people assume.

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: clean the track with a vacuum and a damp cloth, look for visible obstructions in the frame, and confirm whether the label is still legible. That’s the end of the DIY list. Window balances are under tension, and a slip while replacing one means a flying sash and a serious hand injury. Sliding door rollers require removing the door panel, which weighs more than most people expect. If you get the wrong part or install it slightly off, you’ll create a bigger problem than you started with.
We tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost – before we touch a thing. Call (754) 354-3720 and describe the symptom. We’ll tell you over the phone whether this is a $450 hardware job or something bigger, and we’ll bring the likely part with us on the first visit.
FAQs

An IKO window in Fort Lauderdale will last 15 to 25 years on the frame, though hardware like locks, balances, and rollers often need replacement at the 7 to 12 year mark because of salt and sun exposure. Call (754) 354-3720 for a free estimate on replacing the failing part rather than the whole unit.
Some can. A sticking lock can sometimes be cleaned and re-lubricated, and a dragging door often just needs track cleaning. But if the part is worn, bent, or corroded, repair is a temporary patch, and replacement is the honest fix. We’ll show you the part and explain what we’re seeing before we recommend anything.
Most single-window hardware and balance replacements take under an hour once we’re on site. IGU replacements take two to three hours because the old unit has to be removed carefully and the new one seated and sealed. Call (754) 354-3720 and we’ll give you a time window for your specific job.
We stock common IKO-compatible hardware on the truck: locks, latches, handles, rollers, and balances in common sizes. Specialty items and OEM-only parts we order directly. We also stock replacement parts for KraftMaid cabinets and Cambria and Silestone surfaces when the job involves more than the window.
No. It’s written before any work begins, on every job, every time. If we find something unexpected behind the frame, we stop, show you what we found, and give you a new written price before proceeding. No surprise invoices.
