American Standard Bathroom Remodeling: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

Most American Standard bathroom remodeling projects in Fort Lauderdale run between $9,000 and $28,000 installed, depending on what needs to come out and what’s going back in. We stock and install American Standard fixtures, valves, and replacement parts, and we can usually have a crew out to your home within a few days once you approve a written price. The call usually starts the same way: a homeowner in Victoria Park or Rio Vista notices a cartridge that won’t stop dripping, a shower valve that’s seized up from hard water, or a tub drain assembly that’s finally corroded through after years of South Florida humidity.

We’re an independent installer and parts supplier. We’re not affiliated with American Standard, but we work with their products every week, and we know which parts fit which models without guessing.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

A remodeled hall bathroom with subway tile and a floating vanity

American Standard has been making bathroom fixtures for over 140 years, and that means there are a lot of model lines floating around Fort Lauderdale homes. The most common ones we see in bathrooms built from the 1990s onward are the Cadet, Champion, and Colony lines for toilets; the Portsmouth and Serin lines for faucets; and the Fluent and Spectra series for shower valves. Older homes in neighborhoods like Sailboat Bend and Croissant Park sometimes still have the discontinued Heritage or Ellisse series, and those parts are getting harder to find on short notice.

The fastest way to identify what you have is to look for the model number. On toilets, it’s stamped inside the tank, usually on the back wall. On faucets and shower valves, it’s printed on a small tag hanging from the supply line or etched into the valve body behind the trim plate. If you can’t find it, take a photo of the fixture and the trim, and text it to us. Isaac Pruett has been matching American Standard parts by sight for the better part of two decades, and a photo usually settles it in under a minute.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: American Standard changed the broach pattern on its shower valve cartridges between the old 1990s-era pressure-balancing units and the newer 2000s-era ceramic disc valves. They look nearly identical at a glance, but they will not interchange. A homeowner who buys the wrong cartridge online usually ends up with a $40 paperweight and a still-leaking shower. We stock both versions on our trucks.

When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket parts, we default to genuine American Standard replacement parts for anything inside the wall or under pressure. For exposed trim, escutcheons, and toilet tank internals, quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like Danco and Fluidmaster work fine and can save you 20 to 40 percent. We’ll give you the choice, with a straight answer on where it matters and where it doesn’t.

Signs Your American Standard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • A dripping faucet or showerhead that won’t stop. This is almost always a worn cartridge or a failed O-ring. In Fort Lauderdale’s hard water, mineral deposits build up on the ceramic disc and keep it from seating fully. It starts as a slow drip and gets worse over months.
  • Water temperature that swings hot and cold while you’re in the shower. The pressure-balancing spool inside the valve has corroded or jammed. This is a classic failure in older American Standard pressure-balance valves, especially in homes where the water heater runs hot and the incoming pressure fluctuates.
  • A toilet that runs constantly or ghosts (flushes itself briefly). The flapper or the flush valve seal has degraded. American Standard’s 3-inch flush valves move a lot of water fast, and the seals wear out faster than most people expect, usually within three to five years in this climate.
  • Water staining on the ceiling below a bathroom. That’s a leak at the tub drain assembly or the shower pan gasket. American Standard tubs are solid, but the drain gaskets dry out and crack with age, especially in attics and crawlspaces that get hot and humid all summer.
  • Low water pressure from a single fixture. The aerator or the valve inlet screen is clogged with sediment and scale. Fort Lauderdale municipal water carries a good amount of mineral content, and it collects fast in anything with a screen or a small passage.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A freestanding soaking tub in a remodeled primary bathroom

A full American Standard bathroom remodel in Fort Lauderdale typically runs from $9,000 to $28,000. A smaller job, like swapping a tub for a walk-in shower or replacing a vanity, toilet, and fixtures in a guest bath, usually lands between $5,000 and $12,000. What drives the range is scope: whether you’re keeping the existing plumbing rough-in or moving it, whether the tile extends floor to ceiling or just around the wet areas, and whether you’re using builder-grade trim or something like the American Standard Fluent series with a brushed nickel finish.

Every price we give is written, line-item, and covers parts and labor. No allowances, no vague “to be determined” lines, no change orders added on later without your sign-off. American Standard parts are warrantied by American Standard for the manufacturer’s stated period, usually five years for mechanical parts and lifetime for ceramic disc cartridges. Our labor is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work isn’t right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you.

We also work with specification-grade partners like KraftMaid for cabinetry and Cambria or Silestone for vanity tops, so if your American Standard remodel grows into a full bath overhaul, you won’t need to chase down a second contractor.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this work is safe to handle yourself, and we’ll be the first to tell you which part. Replacing a toilet flapper, a faucet aerator, or a showerhead is straightforward, and American Standard designs most of these parts to be homeowner-serviceable. If you can turn a wrench and shut off the water at the fixture stop, go for it.

The line where we say stop is anything involving a shower valve cartridge behind the trim plate, a tub drain assembly, or any repair that requires cutting into the wall or the ceiling. Get the cartridge installation wrong and you can crack the valve body, which means opening the wall to fix it. Tub drain work below the slab or above a finished ceiling is worse: a leak you can’t see will rot the framing before you notice it. We tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what it will cost, before we touch a thing.

If you’re not sure which side of the line your problem falls on, call (754) 354-3720 and describe what’s happening. We’ll give you an honest read, even if the answer is “that’s a $12 flapper, you don’t need us.”
