Cambria Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

Cambria-compatible home additions and ADU construction in Fort Lauderdale typically run $45,000 to $130,000 for an addition and $90,000 to $220,000 for a full ADU, depending on square footage, foundation work, and finish level. We install and project-manage these builds with Cambria quartz countertops specified into kitchens and baths as standard, and we’re usually able to start the design and permitting conversation within a few days of your call. The most common situation we walk into is this: a homeowner added square footage years ago, the original builder cut corners on waterproofing or structural tie-ins, and now the Cambria surfaces are fine but the envelope around them is failing – water intrusion at the seam where old roof meets new, door headers sagging, or the slab settling where the addition was poured.

We’re an independent Fort Lauderdale remodeling company. We are not affiliated with Cambria, but we’ve built additions around Cambria tops long enough to know exactly how their 1cm, 2cm, and 3cm slabs behave in Florida humidity, how to spec the overhang and support, and what goes wrong when somebody guesses instead of measures.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Every Cambria design – from the matte-finish lines like Brittanicca and Torquay to the high-gloss Skelton and the darker Charlestown – installs the same way structurally. What changes is slab thickness. Cambria sells 1cm, 2cm, and 3cm slabs, and the thickness dictates the substrate: a 1cm slab needs a plywood or MDF underlayment, 2cm usually gets a mortared bed or direct-set over cabinetry, and 3cm can span unsupported overhangs up to about 12 inches without additional brackets. If you’re adding a kitchen island as part of your Fort Lauderdale addition, this matters more than most people realize. We’ve seen 3cm Cambria specified for an island, then the fabricator substitutes a 2cm slab to save money, and the homeowner is left with a counter that flexes when a kid climbs on it. That’s a compatibility gotcha worth checking before you sign anything.

For OEM versus aftermarket: Cambria doesn’t sell “parts” the way an appliance brand does. The quartz is the product. What fails around it is the install – the seam adhesive, the support brackets, the sink mounting, the edge profile. When we replace or extend Cambria in an addition, we use Cambria-certified fabrication shops in South Florida, which means seams are color-matched to the specific design lot, not just the design name. That matters because Cambria’s veining varies from lot to lot, and a seam cut from the wrong lot will never blend right.

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Caulk joint separating at the backsplash or wall seam. Florida humidity cycles cause the framing behind the sheetrock to move, and the caulk line cracks. That gap pulls water into the drywall, which wicks upward and slowly rots it from behind. The Cambria itself is fine; the envelope isn’t.
  • Visible deflection at a seam. Run your finger across any Cambria seam. If it feels like one side sits proud by even a 32nd of an inch, the substrate beneath has settled or swelled. That’s not a cosmetic issue – it means water has been getting under the slab edge.
  • Door or window above the counter no longer closes square. In additions and ADUs, this usually means the header over the opening was undersized, or the tie-in to the original house framing has shifted. The counter is the canary; the framing is the problem.
  • Soft spots in the floor in front of the sink or dishwasher. A leaking disposal connection or supply line under a Cambria top goes unnoticed for months because the counter shows no damage. By the time you notice, the subfloor and possibly the joists need repair before any new build-out can happen.
  • Milky haze or etches on the Cambria surface that won’t clean off. Cambria is non-porous and doesn’t etch like natural stone, so haze usually means someone applied a wax or silicone-based cleaner that built up a film. It’s reversible, but not with generic granite cleaner.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full home addition in Fort Lauderdale with Cambria specified into the kitchen and baths, plan on $45,000 to $130,000. An attached or detached ADU runs $90,000 to $220,000. The spread comes from three things: the size of the slab (poured concrete foundations are expensive in South Florida because of frost-line-free but water-table-high soil conditions), the roof tie-in complexity, and the level of Cambria surface area you’re specifying. A 12-foot run of 3cm Cambria with a waterfall edge costs a lot more than a 6-foot straight run with a standard eased edge.

Here’s how the numbers break down in this market:

  • Home addition, full build with Cambria kitchen + bath tops: $45,000 – $130,000
  • ADU construction, freestanding, Cambria specified: $90,000 – $220,000
  • Garage conversion to living space, Cambria kitchenette: $30,000 – $80,000
  • Kitchen remodel within an existing addition, Cambria counters: $14,000 – $45,000
  • Countertop-only replacement, Cambria 3cm installed: $2,000 – $6,500

What’s included with us: a written line-item price before any work starts, all permits pulled and inspections passed, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the Cambria install or the surrounding construction fails within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost. That’s the guarantee in plain words: 365 days from the completion date.

DIY or Call Us?

If the issue is cosmetic – a caulk joint that’s split, a hazy film on the surface – you can clean and recaulk that yourself with a quality silicone caulk and a Cambria-approved cleaner. Pull the old caulk out completely, clean the joint with denatured alcohol, let it dry, and lay a clean bead. If the seam has lifted, the island flexes, or you can feel a soft spot in the floor near the sink, that’s not a DIY repair. That’s framing, substrate, or plumbing work, and screwing it up can damage the Cambria beyond repair. Water behind a countertop does more damage every week it sits. If you’re in Fort Lauderdale and you’re not sure which category you’re in, call (754) 354-3720 and we’ll give you a straight answer. Isaac Pruett has walked enough Victoria Park additions to tell you over the phone whether you need a caulk gun or a crew.
